The late model sensors can be subject to early failure if mounted too close to the heads where the exhaust temps are higher. I'd be more inclined to do that than mess with the adapters and wiring mods. One possibility you didn't mention was having the proper 12mm bungs added to the pipes in the correct location and installing plugs in the 18mm bungs. Check everything out before wasting time and money ordering a system not designed for your bike. The point of my post is that while it's always possible to screw stuff together with thread adapters, in this case there are some possible pitfalls beyond just making the threads the right size. You can buy adapters for that as well, but routing the wires to protect them and keep things looking good could be a bit of a chore. If the bung location is significantly different, you may have issues with the sensor wires. Last but equally important, consider the wiring for the sensors. Also, if the extra shoulder on the adapter is very thick, it could cause the tip of the sensor to be partially shrouded.
